These delicious Buffalo Chicken Hoagies feature baked chicken coated in crispy breadcrumbs and tangy, homemade Buffalo sauce. They're the perfect sandwich for the big game!A couple weeks ago, the New York Times released their list of 52 Places to Go in 2015.  There are so many places I want to visit on this list!  I didn’t even have to scroll down to find my first place…Milan, Italy.  I’ve traveled to Italy several times, and I absolutely love that country!  Somehow I’ve managed to never make it up to that northern corner, though.  It’s definitely on my short list…plus, it’s not far from Parma.  As in the home of Parmesan cheese and Prosciutto di Parma.  (What?  Are you actually surprised that I think about food when it comes to vacations?  Don’t be.  Approximately 91.4% of my daily thoughts involve food.)

But there are a ton of other places on this list that I want to visit, too.  The Faroe Islands sound incredible.  As does Burgundy, France.  And Sri Lanka.  And Manchester, England.  Hmmm…52 places to visit.  52 weeks in a year.  I might just need to take the next year off and travel the world.  I’d also like to point out that New Orleans made the list.  I lived in southern Louisiana for several years, and I can say that it is truly a unique and awesome place.  If you’ve never visited New Orleans, then go.  This year.  And send me back a Saints t-shirt.

They're the perfect sandwich for the big game!I also noticed that a local area made the list.  The Catskills.  We live just north of the Catskills, and we’ve driven through the area a number of times.  However, we haven’t really visited there, and I think it needs to be on the list.  Despite the belief amongst our friends (ok, maybe just one friend in particular) that the Catskills are full of cats performing amazing tricks, I foresee us venturing into this area a lot more this summer.

One New York location that didn’t make the list but totally should have is Buffalo.  Not many cities can brag about getting hit by wave after wave of snow storms bringing multiple feet of snow in each round.  Hmmm…on second thought, maybe that’s why Buffalo didn’t make the NY Times list this year.  However, Buffalo invented the Buffalo wing, and for that they deserve a permanent spot on the list of places to visit.

Buffalo wings are a must-have for football games.  Sure, they’re messy.  But they’re also delicious.  Now that we are in full Super Bowl frenzy, I decided a Buffalo-inspired snack needed to be on our table this year.  I wanted all of the flavor of Buffalo wings without all of the mess.  That’s what led me to these Buffalo Chicken Hoagies. The boneless chicken breasts get covered in breadcrumbs and Buffalo sauce and then baked in the oven until crispy.  Add more Buffalo sauce and drizzle with blue cheese or ranch dressing, and you’ve got one heck of a flavorful sandwich that’s perfect for the big game!  And for an extra punch of Buffalo, might I suggest serving these sandwiches with this classic Buffalo Chicken Dip?

  1. Haha – after your “picturesque” description, and seeing I am such a cold wimp, am thinking Buffalo NEEDS to be on my list of places to visit ! NOT!! But that Buffalo sauce of yours )with a tad more cayenne cos I like it burntheroofoffyourmouthoff-hot) is furrealz on my list of sauces to make!
And you wanna go to Sri Lanka? Duuude -that’s my birth-town! From the tea plantations to waterfalls to “pereharas” to beaches to…I could go on and on – it’s just beautiful!!! If y’all go someday, y’all gotta go to Sigiriya!

    1. Oh man, I totally just remembered that you are from Sri Lanka. Not sure how I could have forgotten that one…I mean, it is your site name and all. Geez! I’m totally putting Sigiriya on my list of places to visit. I just wish I had the time to go to all 52 places on that list!!

And btw, I totally agree with you about the “burntheroofoffyourmouthoff-hot”! That’s usually how I like mine, too!

  2. oh my gawd, David! This is like the ultimate guy’s hoagie!!! love it!! and not surprised at all with New Orleans being on the list! that city has some great food!!! and hooray for Sunday! I’m looking forward to everything! the game, the food, the commercials (yes the commercials, I worked in advertising for like 14 years) and the company!! Go Hawks!!!

    1. I swear the commercials (and the food) are usually the best part about the Super Bowl! I’m a huge football fan, but more often than not I don’t really care about the teams that make it to the final game. But I ALWAYS care about the yummy football snacks! 🙂

  3. Great idea for a tasty sandwich and homage to a town from my native state that seems to never get the flavorful attention that it deserves! I’d love to have one of these babies for lunch today, or any day.

    1. Thanks, Dan! Buffalo anything could totally be on my list and I’d be happy with it. I live in upstate New York now…and we totally need to make a visit over to Buffalo. I suspect that one might have to wait until the summer, though…haha! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    1. Hahaha…Australia should totally be on my list, Arman. My sincerest apologies! So the funny thing is I never really heard about hoagies much until I moved up here, too. They are called different things in different parts of the U.S. In the deep south, they’re Po Boys. East coast called them subs. North calls them hoagies or grinders. I have no idea about mid-West and West since I’ve never lived out there. They might have slight regional differences…but they’re essentially the same thing.

    1. Yes! I had to find a way to make the chicken crispy without frying it…so panko bread crumbs was the answer. These sandwiches are definitely one of my favorites!

    1. Thanks so much, Jess! You should add Niagara Falls to your travel bucket list…that way you end up close to buffalo so you can get your fill of buffalo chicken! After all, food topics kinda dominate where I want to go on vacay, too. Haha!

    1. Thanks, Christina…you rock!! Buffalo chicken is one of my favorite “football foods,” and I was determined to find a way to make it tasty without being so messy to eat. (Not that I have any issues with the classic buffalo wings…they’re just a mess!)

  4. I am a sucker for anything “buffalo chicken” from pizza to sandwiches to, gosh, if someone offered them as cupcakes I’d eat them. Sounds delicious!

    1. Hahaha…the thought of a buffalo chicken cupcake sounds intriguing! I’m not sure I would actually want to eat one, but like you I’m pretty sure I would be tempted! 🙂

  5. These sandwiches solve my biggest problem with buffalo wings – the sauce ALL over my fingers!!! Hate that. Saucy fingers no more! This sandwich looks downright delicious…David for the game day win

And, while I am not shocked that you think about food 91.4% of the time, I am shocked that you’ve never been to Burgundy! I did my study abroad in Dijon and I can tell you it’s a magical place! Plus I am majorly obsessed with White Burgundy wine…bump it up on the list!

    1. Oh come on! The saucy fingers are the best part, Lindsey! Haha…just kidding. I totally hate having to use a whole roll of paper towels whenever I eat wings. Thus the sandwich!

White Burgundy, eh? Now this is clearly something I need to investigate. Funny story: Laura almost got hired to work for a company that would have required us to move to a small town in France for 2 years. We were skeptical about the idea, but down to give it a shot. Instead, we opted for upstate New York. Wait, remind me why we did that again? Haha! Just kidding!

    1. I didn’t get back to you in time, Alpha…but I was rooting against Seattle. Never been a Pete Carroll fan all the way back to his days at USC. I was in a room full of Patriots fans, too…so needless to say, I was pretty happy with the ending. But the best part was that it was a game that went down to the end. Nothing is worse than a boring game for the Super Bowl…like last year!

    1. Thanks, Kevin! These guys were certainly tasty…definitely a keeper. We could hardly wait until the pictures were done to jump into these hoagies!

  6. Man, I wish I would have seen this before Sunday! Totally would have rocked these while watching the game! Well… now you just need to invite me to watch you play a curling match. I’ll bring a buffalo chicken hoagie to scarf down while cheering you on. #wolfpackcurls

    1. I could always use a personal cheering section! Will you dress up in a Spartans cheerleader outfit (aka Will Ferrell from SNL)? Because that would be awesome. Heck, if you dress up, I’ll make you your very own platter of these buffalo chicken hoagies. 🙂
