Dear Pumpkin Spice Latte,
You’re delicious. Everyone loves you. From September-December, it’s pumpkin spice latte this and pumpkin spice latte that. But you’ve had your #PSL fun, my friend. You’ve had your moment months in the spotlight, and now it’s time to share. Your cousin, the Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte, needs some love, too. It’s time for #PSCL. Thank you for understanding.
Sincerely,
David @ Spiced
So I am partially joking here. I mean I do love a good pumpkin spice latte! What’s not to love about pumpkin spice + coffee? But I also find the PSL craze a bit hilarious, too. As soon as that first leaf changes color, it’s like everyone turns into zombies with the singular mission of consuming as many pumpkin spice lattes as possible.
Let’s take that PSL craze in a slightly different direction and go with a Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte. My wife prefers her chai lattes cold, but I tend to like mine nice and hot. Different strokes for different folks, right?
To me, a hot mug of Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte is the very epitome of early November. The temperatures are cold outside, and we’ve got a fire roaring in the fireplace. That’s the perfect time to curl up with a blanket, a good book and a mug of Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte. Oh, and if you’re fighting one of those colds that always seems to come around when the temperatures change, well then a hot chai latte is definitely in order!

Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte
This Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte couldn’t be easier to make either! It’s literally a 5 minute…ok, maybe 10 by the time you measure the spices…task. Speaking of spices, this bad boy is loaded with all sorts of warming, comforting spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, cloves, ginger. Yup, they’re all there! It sounds like a lot, but it’s really not that bad. And taken together, these spices yield the most delicious chai latte ever.
But the real shining star to this recipe is the pumpkin spice of course. I mean, it is still #PSCL season, right? I replaced a bit of the milk in this recipe with International Delight’s Pumpkin Spice creamer…and the result was pure magic. I often put a splash of ID’s Pumpkin Spice creamer into my morning coffee, but I really let the pumpkin spice flavors shine in this chai recipe. I’m telling you…one sip, and you’ll be riding on the #PSCL train, too!
Are you a PSL fan?

Oh my gosh that is hilarious! I am a big PSL fan but I am thinking I really want to try this chai latte. It’s something I can share with my 13 year old because I won’t let her have the coffee drinks!
Ooo…good call, Nancy! I didn’t even think about the advantage for non-coffee drinkers here. I love my morning coffee, but sometimes it’s just nice to mix it up, too. Thank you so much! 🙂
David!!!! I need this like now! I am sitting here drinking my old boring chai and now how I wish & dream that instead I had this!! This looks amazing my friend!! So trying it out!! Pinned!
Thank you so much, Ami! Now I’m not sure any chai could be considered boring with all those amazing spices in there, but a pumpkin spice chai? Well that pretty much wins no matter what game we’re playing! 🙂
Mmmmm…sounds inviting!! Thanks for the spice details, I love knowing what’s in my Latte! Gulp!!
So many amazing spices in this one, Tonya! But make sure to use a cheesecloth pouch…otherwise all of those amazing spices will still be sitting at the bottom of your glass. (Not that I’m opposed to eating them with a spoon…just kidding…haha!)
LOL! I love your letter to PSL. It’s hilarious!! Now, moving on too what is likely to be a new favorite for me, this pumpkin spice chai latte! What could be better??? You’ve done it again my friend!
Haha, thank you so much, Tamara! This chai is seriously easy to make…and woah, it packs an Autumn flavor punch like nothing else! I still enjoy my morning coffee and all, but chai is a nice way to mix it up…especially in the afternoon. 🙂
I cannot wait for “#PSCL” to be the next trending tag on IG! I adore pumpkin everything ALL year – and this Pumpkin Spice Chai latte has got it going on with all them spices in there!
As for a note worthy read – a friend gave me “The Yada Yada Prayer Group Book 1” and I finished it in 2 weeks -which is quick for me! I’ve been struggling to finish the book Lil Shashi gave me since September…I’m thinking I’ll wait for the movie!
Hah! I’d love to think we can get #PSCL trending…let’s do it! Now if I recall, Lil Shashi gave you a book on dating or something like that, right? I mean, that’s not exactly a page turner! But I will have to check out that Yada Yada Prayer Group book…just as long as I have a big blanket, a fire and a nice hot mug of this #PSCL!
Dude – you’ve got one heck of a good memory! Truth be told – I don’t remember the exact name of it – but it was something along those lines – I’m impressed David! When Lil Shashi was a bun in the oven I would’ve forgotten my name if other people didn’t use it so often!
Haha…thanks, Shashi! I can’t remember what Laura told me I need to do today, but I can remember the book that lil Shashi got you for your birthday! Go figure… 🙂
I’ve been on the pumpkin bandwagon for years. Once, my sister and I went grocery shopping. I bought a full-size pumpkin pie. On the way home, I slipped it out of the tin, held it in one hand (just barely), and ate it. While driving. My sister tried to program the GPS for pumkinholics anonymous, but no luck.
Haha…I just got the mental image of looking across and seeing the dude driving next to me eating a full-sized pie. That’s pretty epic, Jeff! I wish you had pictures of that one, though. Maybe recreate it again this year? 🙂
oh yes for me chai anyday over coffee (Indian thing I guess!) love this recipe David, wish I had a cup in front of me right now! It’s 40 degree here right now!!
Geez…you’re colder than we are right now, Manali! It’s been 40 in the morning lately, but we’ve been getting to almost 70 every afternoon. That’s unheard of in New York in November! But I know the real cold is coming…so I need to stock up on everything to make a huge pot of this chai. 🙂
Hi David! This would be perfect to serve my tea loving sister in laws! I am a huge Stephen King fan – the last book I read was his “11/22/63” – he even mentions my husband’s late Uncle Albert who lived in ME in the book!
Ooo…Stephen King! I wonder if I would still like Stephen King books. Wait. Did you say he mentions your husband’s late uncle?? I need the story there! But back to Stephen King. I was that weird kid who read The Shining in the 6th grade. But I wussed out when it come to It and Cujo. That was a little too much for me back then…heck, it’s still a little too much for me now!
Hi David! My all time favorite movie is The Shining! “It” is one of my favorite books! King quite often refers to an actual person, but changes their persona – Uncle Albert was a prominent businessman in ME, but not a jeweler nor in the town as King mentions him. King has the unique talent of bringing out a person’s worst fears!
Haha, I’m that folk who has turned into a zombie. I’m not too crazy about #PSL, but it’s still a must at least few times in fall. Ironically, I started in September with iced versions, and now I prefer hot stuff (No wonder! It’s been freezing recently!). But with this delicious #PSCL there’s no any risk to get cold. Comfort and relaxing. Now pass me few glasses please (I need something warm after a bowl of ice cream, haha).
I’m not one bit surprised that you’ve moved on to the hot version now, Ben…it’s getting downright cold out there! Actually, we’re in the middle of a crazy warm spell right now which is very unusual for upstate New York in November. But the real cold is coming. I can feel it in my bones! And I’m with ya on the ice cream. Maybe a bowl of pumpkin ice cream followed by one of these #PSCL?
My kids love the ol’ PSL and would definitely love it with chai too! As for me…. I am not much on sweet tasting coffee drinks… I’d take a scoop of that whip cream though!
Haha…that sounds like a plan to me, Kathy! You can have all the whipped cream, and the kids can have all the chai. But fair warning: the kids are gonna have to fight me for the chai! 🙂
I love chai lattes – the cinnamon and cardamom is just so comforting, but adding pumpkin to it just takes it to the next level. I bet it tastes like Christmas.
I’m with ya 100%, Dannii! All of the warming Autumn spices in chai make this one of my favorites this time of the year. But add in the pumpkin spice and woah…I’ll definitely be drinking this one through the entire holiday season! I hope you’re feeling better over there!
David, I’m all about the PSL in the fall. . LOVE this!!!!
Thanks, Alice! This #PSCL just screams Fall comfort! 🙂
This is so funny, David! I do ride the PSL train. I try to control myself because holy calories batman! This PSCL sounds perfect for sitting in front of a fire!
Woot! Woot! Time to hop on board the PSL train again today, Rachelle. No, wait, it’s Friday. Treat yourself with a PSCL trainride instead! 🙂
Wow!! This looks amazing!! Such a perfect lovely way to warm up on a chilly fall day!! Thanks for the recipe!! 🙂
Thank you so much, Cailee! We’ve been oddly warm here this past week, but I know the cold days are coming…and with them, more #PSCL! 🙂
Oh my goodness this sounds fantastic David! I love pumpkin spice anything. That creamer sounds amazing!
This PSCL is addictingly awesome, Kelley…thank you! It’s pretty much like a PSL…but with even more warming Autumn spices! 🙂
I think you could make this a lot easier if you use Chai tea bags and add the pumpkin creamer. Chill if you like it cold. Love the idea of the sugar/cinnamon rimming. Twinings makes decaff Chai tea bags although not everyone carries it. I especially like their Vanilla Chai. Enjoy reading your posts.
That’s a really good point, Nancy! I don’t often keep chai tea bags around, but I should totally start doing that now that the holidays are here…this drink was super delicious! I actually just made a second batch for my wife and me this morning…nothing beats lazy Saturday mornings with delicious hot drinks, right? 🙂 Thank you so much for being a fan of Spiced. That really means a lot to me!
Chai lattes are a close second to my favorite latte the PSL. So I’m going to go crazy for a natural combination. Love love this and so wish I had a hot one right now as I rock baby back to sleep at 4am.
Oh my gosh…4am! We’re still on Baby Watch over here, and it could be any day now…I’m thinking I should make a huge container of #PSCL and keep it in the fridge for these late night baby rocking sessions. Thanks, Z! 🙂
My oh my! This Chai latte looks amazing and creamy, I’d love to have a sip right now, yum 🙂
Thanks so much, Muna! You know I had forgotten about this chai latte…but it’s definitely a comforting treat. The mornings here are still pretty chilly, so I might need to whip up another batch this weekend! 🙂 I hope you are doing well!
