I love making my own dough. Bread dough, pizza dough, cookie dough. It doesn’t matter. There is just something fun and rewarding about mixing basic ingredients together and ending up with dough.
Whenever I have free time (hah…), you can either find me curled up on the couch with a book or in the kitchen making some sort of dough. In fact, there’s a good chance I’m curled up on the couch with a book while the dough rises in the kitchen.
Today’s recipe doesn’t use homemade dough. It uses canned crescent dough. You see, this Easy Cinnamon Pecan Wreath is meant to be an easy breakfast on Christmas morning. (It truly would be a delicious breakfast on any day of the year, but the cinnamon + brown sugar + butter combination just feels very holiday to me.)
Easy Cinnamon Pecan Wreath
In about 15 minutes, you can have this cinnamon pecan wreath in the oven. After all, it’s Christmas morning. We have to see if Saint Nick left us presents or coal this year!
In all seriousness, Christmas morning is a time to spend with family and loved ones. We get so much joy out of watching Robbie open his gifts. Any other day of the year, I’ll gladly spend time in the kitchen. But on Christmas morning? That’s family time!
This Easy Cinnamon Pecan Wreath is perfect for the holidays because (1) it’s easy and (2) it’s delicious. Laura took a bite of this one and said, “Holy Moly! We need to make this for everyone we know.” She’s kinda right. It’s a ridiculously easy and tasty recipe.
For this recipe, all you have to do is roll out crescent dough into a large rectangle. Spread a brown sugar + cinnamon + butter mixture evenly on top. Sprinkle on some chopped pecans and then roll it up. From there, you just slice the dough lengthwise and twist it up. (You might lose a pecan or two in the process – just stick ’em back in.)
As this Easy Cinnamon Pecan Wreath bakes, your house will fill with the most amazing smell. Christmas mornings are just better when the smell of cinnamon wafts through the house. I added a few sugared cranberries to the top of this pastry once it came out of the oven. That step is entirely optional, but it’s an easy way to add a fun pop of festive color.
Leftovers
If you have leftovers, just store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Leftovers can either be lightly toasted in a toaster oven or just eaten at room temperature. And if your family is anything like ours, the leftovers won’t last anywhere close to 3 days!
If you’re looking for an easy Christmas morning recipe, then put this one on the list. It’s a crowd-pleaser, and it still leaves plenty of time for opening presents. Happy baking – and Happy Holidays!

Easy Cinnamon Pecan Wreath
Ingredients
For the Sugared Cranberries
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup hot water
- ½ cup fresh cranberries
- 2 Tbsp sparkling sugar
For the Cinnamon Pecan Wreath
- 2 8-oz. cans refrigerated crescent dough
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 6 Tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 1 cup chopped pecans
For the Glaze
- ⅔ cup confectioner’s sugar
- 1 Tbsp milk
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
For the Sugared Cranberries
- Using a medium bowl, stir together granulated sugar and hot water. Add cranberries. Cover and refrigerate overnight. The next day, drain cranberries and toss them in sparkling sugar. Spread cranberries out and let dry for 1 hour.
For the Cinnamon Pecan Wreath
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set pan aside.
- Working on a lightly floured surface, unroll crescent dough and stack both sheets on top of each other. Roll dough into an 11”x18” rectangle.
- Using a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, melted butter and chopped pecans.
- Spread sugar mixture evenly on top of dough.
- Starting with a long edge, roll the dough up into a tight log. Press seams together to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, cut log in half lengthwise. Place pieces cut side up next to each other and carefully twist pieces around each other. Transfer dough onto the prepared baking sheet and pull the ends together to create a circle; pinch ends together to seal.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown in color.
For the Glaze
- Using a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Transfer glaze into a piping bag with a small round tip or a ziptop bag with one corner snipped off. Once wreath has cooled, drizzle glaze on top.
- Garnish top of wreath with sugared cranberries before serving.

David, it must be trans-Atlantic ESP as I was just thinking about you when your email dropped in my box.
This looks perfect for any morning to me. I wonder what it would be like with rolled out puff pastry?
Haha! Definitely trans-Atlantic ESP. 🙂 I do think this would be a great recipe with puff pastry…in fact, it might even be better with puff pastry! Happy holidays, Ron!!
What fun! I bet your son had fun decorating the wreath!
Oh we had so much fun, Mimi! That’s what this time of the year is all about, right? Having fun while enjoying yummy treats!
Yeah, pecans, brown sugar, and cinnamon make such a cozy flavour combination perfect for a holiday morning (or any part of the day.) And for this purpose, I don’t mind store-bought dough at all. But I’m quite surprised you didn’t make a Bourbon glaze, David – it would have been perfect here!
You’re right, Ben – as long as pecans, brown sugar and cinnamon are involved, it’s pretty much going to be good! But a bourbon glaze? Now why didn’t I think of that!? Now I have to make it again – haha!
What a fun and festive wreath – love the flavors you’ve chosen here with cinnamon and pecans! So warm and delicious!
Cinnamon + pecan is such a classic combination…for a reason! I love all things cinnamon pecan, and this wreath was such a fun holiday treat. Thanks, Michelle!
I completely agree that Christmas morning is about spending quality time with loved ones. This recipe’s simplicity allows you to focus on creating memories while still enjoying a delicious treat.
Thanks so much, Raymund!
yes a great flavour combo there David. I don’t think we can get refrigerated crescent dough here but puff pastry would be a goer. Hope your christmas day was fabulous. Merry Christmas!
I was thinking about you when I used refrigerated crescent dough in this recipe, Sherry! I’m still surprised that it hasn’t made the jump to Australia. Homemade is definitely better, but the refrigerated version is great in a pinch. With that said, puff pastry would be great in this recipe…perhaps even better!!
