Complete with spicy buffalo chicken, creamy refried beans and crunchy bacon, this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip is a surefire party favorite!I’m channeling my inner Freak Nasty today.  *Shout-out to late 90’s hip-hop!*  I put my hand upon your hip / When I dip, you dip, we dip.  Wait, what?  Freak Nasty wasn’t talking about 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip when he wrote that song?  Well, you coulda fooled me…because I think about buffalo chicken dip whenever that song comes on.  Truth be told, buffalo chicken dip is never far from my brain at any given time…

Complete with spicy buffalo chicken, creamy refried beans and crunchy bacon, this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip is a surefire party favorite! No matter the occasion, buffalo chicken dip always holds a special place on our party table.  The top-right hand corner is reserved for the bowl of buffalo chicken dip.  Don’t mess with that top-right hand corner!  We can always count on one of our good friends to bring a batch of buffalo chicken dip whenever we host a party.  Or whenever she just drops by to see Robbie.  Or if the day happens to end in “y.”  (I actually posted that Buffalo Chicken Dip way back when I first started this blog.  It’s a classic…even if the pictures don’t show it.  *shudder*)

Complete with spicy buffalo chicken, creamy refried beans and crunchy bacon, this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip is a surefire party favorite! My love for buffalo chicken is well established.  Believe it or not, I wasn’t a fan of buffalo chicken until we moved up here to upstate New York.  But for some reason, I wanted to try Laura’s wings one night.  And I liked them!  And what’s more…I dipped ’em in blue cheese dressing, and I liked ’em even more.  Buffalo and blue cheese together?  My taste buds felt like they’d won the lottery.  And since then, I’ve embraced the buffalo chicken with everything from tacos to hoagies to nachos.  Please tell me you share the buffalo chicken love…

So when I stumbled across a kicked-up version of buffalo chicken dip on Serious Eats the other day, I knew it needed to happen.  My taste buds actually went on strike and refused to do any more work until this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip made an appearance.  I didn’t think it was possible, but this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip actually raises our classic buffalo chicken dip to a whole new level.   I put my hand upon your hip / When I dip, you dip, we dip.  It wasn’t officially in Freak Nasty’s song, but the next 4 lines are actually I dip, I dip, I dip.

Complete with spicy buffalo chicken, creamy refried beans and crunchy bacon, this 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip is a surefire party favorite! This 7-Layer Buffalo Chicken Dip is what would happen if a truck carrying buffalo chicken dip ran into another truck carrying 7-layer dip.  And the result is a loaded up dip that will have everyone coming back for more!  So as we head into Memorial Day weekend and summer picnic season, I hope you keep this dip in mind.  It seriously is delicious!  Well alright y’all / if you ain’t dippin’, you must be trippin’ / I dip, I dip, I dip / I dip, I dip, I dip / I dip, I dip, I dip.

  • Remove from oven and top with corn, crumbled blue cheese and green onions. Crumble cooked bacon on top before serving.

Notes

Make sure to use an oven-safe dish for this dip. I used a 7-cup oven-safe glass bowl, and it was the perfect size.

  1. I do share the buffalo chicken love. HOWEVER, thank you so much (sarcastically saying) for getting that song stuck in my head allllll day long 😉 Seriously, though, that dip is the bomb and definitely what I need on Friday. Have a good one, my friend!

    1. Hahaha! I hope that awful song wasn’t stuck in your head all weekend, Dawn! 🙂 But with that said, I hope you had some awesome dips and yummy eats this past weekend. We just wrapped up a long weekend, and it was great…but now it’s raining and cold outside again. What the heck, Weather?? Thanks, my friend!

  2. If anyone can resist a dip like this one, I don’t think they’re fully human! This looks incredible – that mountain of toppings has my mouth watering like crazy. Love the music tie-in too! I hope you and your family have a great Memorial Day weekend 🙂

    1. Oh man, there are (were) so many amazing layers to this dip! Plus, it includes buffalo chicken…and buffalo chicken makes everything better in my opinion! 🙂 I hope you guys had a great long weekend, Mara!

  3. OK, thank you for taking me back to the days when I worked in a coffee shop and we sang that song at the top of our lungs when we were closing down at night. It was a tradition :). Although I don’t know why that atrocious song was a tradition. . .This dip though! Holy cow, I love a 7-layer dip. The only problem is I have to have TONS of people around to share it with or I just camp out next to the bowl and eat it all myself. Clearly I need to make more Phoenix friends ASAP so I can try your recipe. Have a great long weekend David!

    1. Say what!? That sounds like the most amazing job ever. It also sounds like you guys might have drank a bit too much coffee throughout the day. 🙂 I totally have a mental image of you singing Freak Nasty at the top of your lungs. Hah! You are absolutely right about dips! If there aren’t enough people around, then I end up just polishing the whole thing off myself. I hope you had a great long weekend, my Phoenix friend!

    1. Haha! You are so, so right, Kathy. That song is addicting….and not in a good way. But I think your secret is safe with me. No one needs to know that the 6-layer dip actually started as a 7-layer dip! 🙂 I hope you guys had a great long weekend!!

  4. This is the type of party food you just can’t stop eating! so many flavors and all these layers! looking great David! I do hope you have a great weekend and have a wonderful Monday!

    1. You totally described this dip perfectly, Gaila! It really is one tasty party food…and it’s perfect for summer get-togethers on the back porch. We did indeed have a great weekend, and I hope you did, too. Thank you so much, my friend!! 🙂

  5. David, you’re a lazy guy. You even didn’t toss this dip before serving. Wait. What? Are you saying it’s supposed to look this way? It looks spectacular, then! 🙂 This combo is truly delicious. Cream cheese, cheese, blue cheese (All right, I’m already sold!), chicken, beans, corns, and few other good ingredients – this simply cannot be bad! And I like that you’ve baked the creamy part (It’s like buffalo fondue hah). Well done, and I hope you’re having a great (and delicious) long weekend.

    1. I know! I am indeed one lazy guy, Ben. Of course, had I tossed this dip first, I might have been tempted to eat a bite…since no one would be able to tell. But then that first bite might have turned into a second and third bite. And then the next thing I knew, I might not have had a dip to share. And that would have been sad! So my laziness actually worked in my favor this time! 🙂 We did indeed have a great long weekend, and I hope you had a great weekend yourself. (I know you already had your long weekend, but I hope the regular weekend was still fun!)

  6. That was the best opening sentence I’ve ever read David! Hahahahah I remember the Dip Song. I love 7 layer dip. I still remember When my Mom brought home this delicious recipe and made it for our Sunday Football feast. Everyone was amazed at the neatness of the layers the tasty flavor combination. Life was so much easier back then lol. I’ve never had Buffalo Chicken Dip, perfect recipe for Memorial Day.

    1. That song really is terrible, Mary! I remember when it was so popular, but now I just can’t handle it anymore. Haha! But I still managed to get it stuck in my head for the whole day when I made this dip. (And I apologize if I managed to get it stuck in your head for the whole day, too…) Layer dips are indeed popular for football parties, but I just had to post this one since layer dips need to make more appearances at summer parties! I hope you had a successful weekend at the flea market, my friend! Thank you!!

  7. David, when I started reading this I thought, I’d better hop over to YouTube to see if I remember that Freak Nasty song. But seeing as you warn us at the end of your post by saying that it could be “stuck in your head for the rest of the day.” I’ll avoid it. 🙂

I certainly wouldn’t avoid this buffalo chicken dip though. It looks amazing. And I bet it tastes fabulous!

    1. Oh, you made the best decision ever…and you didn’t even know it, Neil! That Freak Nasty dip song was super popular back in the day. (By back in the day, I mean the mid-90’s.) But it’s one of those songs that will absolutely get stuck in your head…and it’s not a song that you want stuck in your head! Thanks so much, my friend, and I hope you guys had a great weekend over there in Scotland! (A buddy of mine came up to visit this past weekend, and we totally talked about taking a trip over to Scotland sometime in the next couple of years…it might have to happen!)

    1. Haha! This dip does indeed disappear rather quickly. 🙂 In fact, it’s a battle to see who can get to the bacon layer first! Thanks, Karen!

  8. Hahahaha!!! What a fantastic segue from Freak Nasty to this dip!!! And am not sure what’s more fantastic – your segue or this dip! I have coffee in my nose from reading “Well alright y’all / if you ain’t dippin’, you must be trippin’ / I dip, I dip, I dip / I dip, I dip, I dip / I dip, I dip, I dip.” Dude!!!!! I actually have tried and enjoyed buffalo chicken wings with a blue cheese dip before – but – dang – this is epic! And…oooh that mound of bacon has me thinking all I wanna do now is to dip! Dip! Dip!

    1. Hahaha! Well I sincerely apologize for the coffee in the nose experience, Shashi. I’ve been there on more than one occasion as I like to read my favorite blogs in the morning while I drink my coffee, too! 🙂 Now I love a good chicken wing, but they can be kinda messy. This dip fixes that problem…and it’s perfect for entertaining with a crowd, too! Thanks so much!!

  9. A dip meshing a 7 layer bean dip type dip with a buffalo chicken dip?? My mind is seriously blown. All of my favorite flavors here and I’m pretty sure I could eat the entire thing myself and forgive myself for it 😉 YUM David!

    1. That’s exactly what I was going for here! I love 7-layer bean dip, and I love buffalo chicken dip…so why not combine them both into one? 🙂 As far as eating it all by myself, I plead the fifth. Haha! Thanks, Lindsay!

    1. Haha! Hey, summer is a great time to pull out some delicious warm-weather recipes and invite some friends over. I say do it, Marissa! 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend, and thank you!
