We are always looking for ways to include feta in recipes. The tangy flavor and crumbly texture are a favorite here in our house. To be fair, most of the feta around here goes into salads. Feta in a mixed greens salad – especially with cranberries and toasted pecans – is something special! Recently I went on a hunt for new ways to use feta in recipes at home.
The result? Toasted Feta. Toasted Feta is essentially small blocks of feta cheese that have been battered and fried. You end up with bite-sized pieces of feta that are super crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. SO good! Fried feta can be served as a fun appetizer, or it can be served on top of Greek salads. Think croutons…but way better!

Toasted Feta
Making Toasted Feta cubes at home is really not that difficult. Sure, you’re dealing with oil and frying, but I used a saucepan to keep things easy. (Since the feta cubes are small, a saucepan still provides plenty of room for frying.)
Once fried, the feta becomes softer and slightly creamy. Think mozzarella sticks…but with feta cheese instead! It’s a fun way to elevate an already delicious cheese. Serving Toasted Feta at a party would certainly catch everyone’s attention…at least until the plate is empty!

Ingredients
- Feta Cheese. The key to making Toasted Feta is using a whole block of feta cheese. Crumbled feta won’t work well for this recipe, so buy the whole block and cut it into cubes at home.
- Flour. Tossing the cubed feta in flour helps absorb some of the extra moisture from the cheese. This leads to a crispier crust once it’s fried. The flour also helps the egg mixture stick.
- Egg and Milk. Once the feta has been tossed in flour, dip each cube into a mixture of egg and milk. This will help the bread crumbs stick to the cubes.
- Panko Bread Crumbs, Parmesan Cheese, Dried Oregano and Dried Basil. Lastly, dip each cube in a mixture of bread crumbs, Parmesan and dried herbs. Panko bread crumbs are the best choice here as they will lead to extra crispy cubes of toasted feta.
- Oil (for frying). I used canola oil, but vegetable oil or peanut oil are also good options when frying.
Toasted Feta is a whole new way (at least for us) of enjoying a favorite cheese. It can be served warm or at room temperature. Just don’t be surprised when you turn around and the plate is empty! Cubes of toasted feta are especially tasty in salads or mixed with roasted veggies as a side dish.

How to Store Leftovers
Leftover fried feta should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat the cubes in a 300°F oven or toaster oven for 6-8 minutes, or until warmed through.
If you’re looking for a unique and tasty party appetizer, then give this Toasted Feta a try! The combination of the crispy crust with the creamy feta in the middle is absolutely delicious. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do here. Cheers!

You’ve taken feta to a whole new level of awesome by toasting it! I especially like how this can be made ahead of time, then simply reheated in the oven. I can definitely see my family snacking on this over a riveting board game!!
I’m telling you, Heidi – this toasted feta is fantastic! Whether nibbling on them as a snack or using them in a recipe (salad croutons!!), I promise these will be a hit in your house! 🙂
I guess you would need a firm feta rather than one of those crumbly ones. This is such a great idea, David. I have certainly taken Camembert and fried them up but would never have thought of using feta. I bet it’s delicious.
Sherry
As long as you buy a block of feta, it should work – but, yes, a firmer block would definitely make things easier. Give this a try – we loved it!! Thanks, Sherry!
