These Sweet and Sour Meatballs are perfect for either appetizers or a hearty, winter meal!
This past spring (which feels like ages ago now), our neighbors hosted a graduation party for their daughter. (She had just finished med school…how awesome is that? And she wants to work in pediatrics. Even more awesome!) The party was at a local restaurant/banquet hall, and they told us to bring Robbie along. Now I had my reservations about taking Robbie out to a party at night considering that he goes to bed around 7pm. But we did it, and it was amazing! They had a DJ, and Robbie bopped his way back and forth across the dance floor all night long. I swear that kid is going to do something related to music when he gets older!
While Robbie was jamming out to classic party songs, Laura and I took turns sneaking over to the appetizer table. They had a huge cheese board set up, and I’m pretty sure I could eat my weight in cheese. But it was actually the meatballs that had me coming back for more. I seriously kept doing fly-bys by the appetizer table, and each time my plate would magically have more meatballs on it. Funny how that happens, right? Turns out Laura was doing the same thing on her trips by the appetizer table, too!
Confession: I actually took out my phone and snapped a quick pic of those meatballs. It wasn’t so I could go home and remember the party. (It was a great party, though!) It wasn’t so I could post them on social media showing everyone what I was eating that night. (That’s not how I roll.) It was so that I could remember to recreate these Sweet and Sour Meatballs back home. Well, I forgot about those meatballs until I was going through my iPhone pics the other night. And there it was. Appetizer heaven!
I know meatballs are a popular party food, but I don’t think I’ve ever made them for that purpose here at home. (We typically do meatball subs instead of just meatballs.) As we’re smack in the middle of the holiday season right now, I figured it would be a good time to share a tasty appetizer. One of our favorite things to do during the holidays is open a bottle of wine and just have appetizers for dinner. Sometimes this involves friends and neighbors. Sometimes it just involves the two of us. Either way, it’s still fun!
These Sweet and Sour Meatballs are perfect for either appetizers or a meal. If you are having friends over, just stick some toothpicks in these meatballs and call it a day. If it’s a smaller gathering, then just serve these Sweet and Sour Meatballs over rice. Either way, it’ll be delicious! Oh, and if you’re making these an appetizer, make extras. You just might find your guests doing extra fly-bys next to the meatball table. I speak from experience here! Enjoy!
And since that photo of Robbie was taken so long ago, I figured we should include a more recent one, too. This is him with Santa this past weekend. He was so excited to see Santa…until we got there!
