This recipe is more of an inspiration than an actual recipe. After all, it’s not that difficult to make a batch of Pepperoni Pizza Fries. Frozen French fries. Cheese. Pepperoni. Seasonings. Pizza sauce. But that’s the point. This is an easy comfort food recipe that’s perfect for watching the game or just curling up on the couch for a Friday movie night.
These Pepperoni Pizza Fries are what happens when you combine pizza with loaded fries. In short, they’re delicious! Melty mozzarella cheese fries topped with pepperoni. This is an easy recipe that’s guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Plus, this recipe only requires one pan…so clean up is a breeze!
Pepperoni Pizza Fries
This recipe can easily be adapted to include your favorite pizza toppings, too. For us, we always include pepperoni, sliced onions and diced jalapenos. (I omitted the onions and jalapenos on this version as our 7-year-old was eating with us.)
Ingredients
- French Fries – I used frozen crinkle-cut fries as the crinkles help hold the cheese and other toppings together. Frozen waffle fries or steak fries are also excellent choices. “Regular” fries (i.e. restaurant style frozen French fries) aren’t the best type of fries as they don’t hold the toppings as well. But if you only have regular fries? Don’t let that stop you! These Pepperoni Pizza Fries will still be gone in about 5 minutes.
- Cheese – In keeping with the pizza theme, I used shredded mozzarella cheese for this recipe. (I used Cabot’s whole milk shredded mozzarella – it’s delicious, and it melts well!) A bit of shredded cheddar cheese mixed in with the mozzarella would be an excellent decision, too.
- Pepperoni – This one kind of speaks for itself, but I did use mini pepperoni slices just to make these fries easier to eat. If you use the larger slices of pepperoni, I recommend cutting the slices into quarters first.
- Seasonings – I kept it simple with the spices and just used some Italian seasoning and salt. A tiny bit of garlic powder or onion powder would be options for the next time. A little bit goes a long way with both of those, though!
- Pizza Sauce – I used a store-bought jar of pizza sauce to keep things nice and easy. But here’s a little trick – serve the pizza sauce on the side rather than on top of the fries. If you pour the pizza sauce directly onto the fries, it makes them messier to eat…and they also get soggy. No one wants soggy fries!
- Other Toppings – This is where you can get creative! If you put it on pizza, then you can put it on pizza fries. Sliced onions, diced jalapenos, black olives, mushrooms are all fair game. Heck, you could go with a ham and pineapple theme for Hawaiian pizza fries if you wanted. Or maybe buffalo chicken. Yup, that needs to happen next!
Storing Leftovers
You will probably not have to wonder about storing leftovers of these Pepperoni Pizza Fries. In fact, you’ll probably be wondering “How did all of those fries disappear so quickly!?” If you do have leftovers, just store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
To reheat, place them on a sheet pan in a 350°F oven for 5-10 minutes, or until warmed through. I do not recommend freezing these French fries once they have been prepared.
If you’re looking for a great game day appetizer, then put these Pepperoni Pizza Fries on the list. Everyone will be excited when you pull a tray of these out of the oven. Cheers!
