12 Ground Beef RecipesI’ve always been a stats and figures kinda guy.  Don’t get me wrong.  You won’t find me running multiple regression analyses just for fun.  Those days are over.  But you will find me looking up fun stats and figures.  Today’s topic: retail food sales and the recent craziness.  Did you know that packaged cookie sales are up 20.3% compared to the same time period in 2019?  Alternatively, celery sales have dropped off 18.7% this year.  Shocking, I know.

Another retail fact: beef sales are up 8% with ground beef and ribeyes leading the way.  American beef ranks among the safest in the world, and the United States exports quite a bit of beef.  Fun trivia fact: which 4 countries top the list for exporting the most beef?  Scroll down to the bottom of the post for the answer.  (But before you scroll to the bottom, put some thought into this question!)

With ground beef flying off of supermarket shelves, I thought it might be fun to highlight some different ground beef recipes.  We’re doing our part to flatten the curve by self-quarantining.  Laura and I are both working from home, and Robbie hasn’t gone to preschool in 3 weeks.  One of the things we’ve done to mix things up is find new recipes to cook together.

I decided to take a fun approach to this post and pair ground beef recipes together.  One of the recipes is a favorite from the Spiced archives while the other recipe is a fun one from the Beef, It’s What’s for Dinner archives.  I’m calling this a “Make This & That” post as you can use that ground beef to put different spins on similar recipes.  Take a look and let me know what you think.  And stay sane…Getting into the kitchen to cook tasty and different recipes has really helped me!

Trivia answer: The world’s largest exporters of beef are: (1) Brazil – Brazilian steakhouses, anyone?  (2) India – This one is tricky.  Beef isn’t typically consumed in India, but India is still the 2nd largest exporter thanks to carabeef, or water buffalo meat.  (3) Australia – Beef is the largest agricultural sector in Australia, thus making it a key component of the Australian economy.  (4) United States – As noted above, the United States exports quite a bit of beef to countries.  The largest consumers of U.S. beef are Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Canada.

    1. Hey, I love a good burger (we just grilled some last night in fact!), but it’s also fun to find new recipes. I hope this list will inspire you a bit, Kathy! 🙂

  2. My mouth is watering scrolling through all of these photos! So many great recipes to try and your burgers (all of them!) look particularly enticing!

    1. Oh, you’re preaching to the choir here, Marissa! I love a burger, and I’m pretty sure I could eat one every.single.night. 🙂 But it is fun to find different ways to mix up meals, too. Hope you’re doing well, my friend!

    1. Awesome! So glad this list could inspire you, Alexandra. These days get really long stuck in the house, and we’ve found that mixing up the dinner routine has been really helpful. 🙂

  3. Wowza. All of these look so delicious. I especially want the Shepherd’s Pie and the stuffed Portobella. Yum! Our local market finally has beef on the shelves again — in the early morning, anyway. Looking forward to trying a couple of these recipes. 🙂 ~Valentina

    1. Yes! It was crazy to see the meat aisle that first week. Everything was gone…well, everything except for the imitation meat. Haha! Our stores are getting restocked here, too. Hope everything else is going well for you and your family, Valentina!

  4. A good beefy recipe roundup David. I’m tuned in to that cheeseburger quesadilla and love mushrooms on a burger.
3 weeks of isolation with a youngster, you’re my hero. Well, my son is also my hero because they are in week three with my 4 yo grandson and going bonkers.
We get Brazilian whole tenderloin beef here, but other than that we only get the Swedish grass fed chewy beef. Man, how I long for a good thick prime Black Angus New York cooked rare. Now I’ve gone and made myself hungry.

    1. Hey Ron! That cheeseburger quesadilla is hands down one of my favorites. I highly recommend it. Interesting point about the types/cuts of beef you can get over there. Hey, you can’t complain about Brazilian whole beef tenderloin, though! I assume you’ve got ground beef? Although if it’s grass-fed, the texture might indeed be a bit different. I’d send you a NY Strip if I knew how!!

And you know quite well via your son how we’re holding up here. I’m about ready to jump out of a window!

    1. Ground beef is a freezer staple here, too, Dawn! And with the quarantining, we’ve found cooking to be a fun way to mix up each day. Hope you guys are doing well up there, too!
