But one of the perfect treats at the end of a hot summer’s day is a nice cold glass of sangria! Sangria is a combination of wine and fruit, and the best part is how easy it is to make. You can adapt the recipe to feature whatever types of fruit happen to be in season or on sale…although for a white wine sangria, you’ll probably want to stick to the lighter fruits like oranges, cherries, peaches, etc.
This White Wine Summer Sangria is a favorite in our household every summer! (And yes, it does start with white wine…the cherries and strawberries quickly turn the mixture into a light reddish color.)
You may remember that my wife and I brought back a huge basket of peaches from a recent trip down to South Carolina. As you can imagine, I’ve been having fun putting peaches in all sorts of dishes…and just eating them plain, of course! (Check out these Peach Shortcakes with Candied Ginger!)
We also went out a couple of weeks ago and picked a bunch of cherries at a local orchard. (Some of those cherries turned into this Bourbon Sour Cherry Pie. Delicious!) This White Wine Summer Sangria features both peaches and cherries…along with a bunch of other fruits, too!
The key to making a delicious white wine sangria is using a dry white wine, such as pinot grigio, chardonnay, chablis, or sauvignon blanc. (Basically just stay away from the sweeter wine wines, and you’ll be fine!)
So if the heat is starting to feel like a bit too much, mix up a batch of this sangria. It’s refreshing, delicious, and features all of the wonderful flavors of summer!
