This Cast Iron Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie is sure to create plenty of smiles! After all, how often do you get to eat a cookie with a fork?
There are a few things in life that are guaranteed to create instant excitement. Winning the lottery is one of them. Taking a much-needed vacation is another. And chocolate chip cookies is right up there, too. Sure, the first two are pretty obvious…but think about it. When have you ever walked into a room and seen a big tray of chocolate chip cookies…and then been sad about it? Similarly, when have you ever walked into a room with a tray of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and had everyone ignore you? Yeah, that just doesn’t happen! And what’s better than a chocolate chip cookie? Well, a gigantic chocolate chip cookie of course! This Cast Iron Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie is whimsical, fun, and quite delicious!
Aside from the fact that I’m baking a 12″ round chocolate chip cookie, my favorite part of this recipe is how easy it is. Not that shaping cookie dough into balls is all that hard, but you can skip that step! Yup, just dump all that cookie dough straight into a cast iron skillet. Easy and delicious? Now that’s my kind of recipe!
I know everyone probably has their favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe stashed away someplace safe. (I actually have 2 or 3 favorite recipes when it comes to chocolate chip cookies!) This version is actually based on a cookie that my younger sister created a number of years ago. She came to visit us when we lived in Atlanta, and she walked in the door with this huge bag of the most amazing looking cookies I’d ever seen. I thought for sure they were from a bakery in Nashville, but nope…she made them. I joked that those cookies should be called Kitchen Sink Cookies since they had everything under the sun in them. Chocolate chips? Yup. Coconut flakes? Got that. Nuts? Of course. Oats? Got that, too. And to finish them off, they had a sprinkle of sea salt across the top. Woah! Someday I’ll get around to posting those Kitchen Sink Cookies, but this Cast Iron Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie should help you make it until then.
