Instructions
For the Sausage Roll
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Using a medium skillet, add olive oil, onions and peppers; place over medium heat. Sauté for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until peppers have begun to soften. Remove from heat and set aside.
Meanwhile, cook ground Italian sausage in a separate skillet until fully cooked; drain excess grease from cooked sausage.
In a large mixing bowl, combine onions, peppers, cooked sausage, salt, Italian seasonings, Parmesan cheese, cream cheese and Mozzarella cheese; stir until well combined.
Working on a lightly floured cutting board or countertop, roll pizza dough into a 16” square. Spread sausage and cheese mixture evenly on top of dough, going all the way to the edge. Roll dough into a log and pinch seam closed.
{Optional} Brush the top of the sausage roll with the Herbed Olive Oil.
Place sausage roll on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake at 400°F for 24-26 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing. (Tip: If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it is preheating. Then place sausage roll on a piece of parchment paper and bake it directly on the stone.)
Let sausage roll cool for several minutes before using a sharp knife to cut into slices for serving.
Notes
If spicy food isn't your thing, just use mild or sweet Italian sausage instead!
