Basil
several leaves torn into pieces
mild

Instructions
Preheat a grill pan (fry pans work fine, too, but they won't give you the nice grill marks) on medium heat for 3-4 minutes.
While the pan is pre-heating, begin preparing the sandwiches by spreading a small amount of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
Flip the bread over so that the buttered side is face down.
Layer the sourdough bread with alternate layers of meats and cheeses.
Top with basil leaves, and finish with pepperoncini and olive spread if desired.
Place second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
Grill for 2-3 minutes or until bottom is golden brown.
Flip the sandwich over and grill for another 2-3 minutes.
Transfer to a cutting board and cut sandwich lengthwise into several slices
Serve with warm marinara.
