I love the month of April. The weather is getting warmer. The days are getting longer. Flowers are starting to bud. (The pollen is, too…but I choose to ignore that.) The garden is almost ready for planting. But most importantly, April means its time to get the grill out and ready for summer grilling!
Spring means one thing, it’s time to get in bathing suit shape! Now, I like desserts (a lot). Every now and then, however, a girl has to eat some greens. This salad is my absolute go-to salad for dinner parties all the way to a casual weekday lunch. It’s fresh, delicious, and the flavors work […]
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it on the blog, but in addition to running Spiced, I also teach high-school Latin. And I love it! You may remember my post a while back where I talked about taking Latin myself. Check out the Campenelle + Italian Sausage, Peas, and Pamigiano Reggiano Cream Sauce post! How many of you took […]
Grilled cheese sandwiches are absolutely one of my top 5 comfort foods. Grilled cheese + tomato soup on a cold winter’s day? Yes, please. Grilled cheese + chopped salad on a warm summer afternoon? Of course! Grilled cheese sandwiches are truly one of the greatest (and easiest) culinary treats out there. They remind me of […]
I’ve had this day circled on my calendar for weeks. Yup, that’s right. Wednesday, April 10th. Big red circle. Nope, its not my birthday. So why is it circled you might ask? Because April 10th is National Cinnamon Crescent Day. And as you may have noticed from previous posts, I am slightly obsessed with cinnamon. […]
One of my many favorite things about summer is eating directly out of the garden. I know it sounds a bit cliche, but I seriously walk out to the garden every afternoon and see whats ripe…and then that becomes dinner for the night. If you’ve never planted an herb/vegetable garden, then try it this year! […]
If you regularly read Spiced, then you know that my wife and I live in upstate New York. We love it up here. The summers are great and the leaves are gorgeous in the fall…not to mention the apple picking in the fall, too! Winters? Eh. But the rest of the year makes up for […]
Gnocchi is absolutely one of my favorite Italian foods. Ever. I’m pretty sure it was a daily staple when my wife and I traveled to Italy on our honeymoon a couple years back. If you’ve never had good gnocchi, then you are missing out. Like most pasta dishes, there are many different varieties of gnocchi, […]
Now that Easter’s over, it’s time to get back to normal…which basically means no desserts for a while. If you’ve been reading Spiced this past week, you know what I mean! My wife and I have been enjoying Cadbury Creme Egg Milkshakes, Hot Cross Buns, Raspberry Kringle, and we still have a couple slices of […]
When I was a kid, I never liked carrot cake. Well, to be honest, I never tried carrot cake. I actually loved carrots, and I definitely ate my fair share of cake. But I didn’t like the idea of carrots being in my cake. I mean, who in the their right mind would ever put […]
When I was younger, a family friend would always send us a Danish kringle from Wisconsin every year for Christmas. My sister and I loved this treat, and it soon became one of our favorite Christmas morning traditions! I haven’t had a kringle in many years, but I still remember the taste like it was […]
You’ve probably heard the nursery rhyme about hot cross buns, but have you ever actually eaten a hot cross bun? I grew up in the south, and I don’t remember seeing these very often down there. I’m not saying they weren’t there. I just don’t remember them.
